Christine Lagarde, CEO of International Monetary Fund (IMF) visits AMTD FinTech Innovation Hub

On 14th November, Christine Lagarde, CEO of International Monetary Fund (IMF) visited AMTD Fintech Innovation Hun during the Singapore FinTech Festival, met and communicated cordially with Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group.

Calvin Choi welcomed Christine Lagarde’s visit on behalf of AMTD Group. He said, as a Hong Kong-based comprehensive financial institution with services coverage across China and the world, AMTD Group is always committed to being the “super connector “between the areas of technology and capital market. AMTD fully supports the interconnection between Asia and the ASEAN market, and seizes the opportunities to jointly develop FinTech in China and the ASEAN market under the “Belt and Road” initiative. AMTD has jointly hosted the FinTech Festival with the government of Singapore for two consecutive years. AMTD looks forward to making more greater contributions to the development of the global new economy and the advancement of innovation and technology. Calvin also introduced well to Lagarde regarding the newest development of the “Regional Bank” strategic cooperation alliance that established and led by AMTD, and presented the performance of the portfolio companies and the ecosystem of AMTD.

Mrs. Lagarde highly appreciated AMTD’s achievements in promoting technological innovation and development in capital market. She said, it is great to see that AMTD is seizing the huge development opportunities between China and the ASEAN markets to build a bridge connecting the capital markets and resources for the global innovation and technology companies. “Regional Bank” strategic cooperation alliance that established and led by AMTD, is a good example for the cooperation between small and medium banks and FinTech. She looks forward to viewing more contributions of promoting global innovation economy led by AMTD.

Recently, AMTD jointly hosted the global FinTech event – 2018 Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) with Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), The Association of Banks in Singapore, Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC), Deloitte, Prudential and Google etc., grandly held in Singapore from 12th to 16th November. SFF was firstly held in 2016, and it has become the largest and most attended global FinTech event in the world. More than 25,000 government officials, regulator representatives, representatives of financial institutions and technology innovation companies, and institutional investors from more than 100 countries around the world gathered in Singapore to discuss technological innovation and development together, including Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Christine Lagarde, CEO of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies of Singapore etc. At the same time, there will be over 200 regional and international media to attend the event, including Bloomberg, CNBC, Channel NewsAsia, The Business Times, The Edge etc. AMTD has jointly hosted the Singapore FinTech Festival with the government of Singapore for two consecutive years.
